NEW BEGINNING

The population medicine strand of ADZU School of Medicine is one of the most awaited event of every first year medical student. Based from experiences of our seniors, it is where we are molded to be great doctors. After months of envisioning how our life would be in the community that will be assigned to us and who we will be living with for the next 5 years, the day finally came for us to experience it first hand.

Today, January 3, 2018, starts our journey as doctors not only for ourselves, but also for others. We are assigned in Barangay Motibot, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by our community preceptor, Dr. Rex Samson. We had a quick tour around the center of Sindangan before dispatching us to our designated barangay. Truly, Sindangan has a comforting view and the bukid vibes is indeed refreshing - fresh air, rice fields, coconut trees, and chirping birds. First things first, we immediately had our courtesy call to the barangay officials, barangay health workers, and of course, made friends with our neighbor. People in Barangay Motibot are indeed very welcoming and easy to get along with. Hopefully, the good relationship we have started will continue to flourish for the next 5 years.

Our journey as a team has finally begun. Now, we are here to turn the mission that was inculcated in us into reality, which is to help provide solutions to the health problems of the people and communities of Western Mindanao and beyond. 8 student doctors with 1 goal, and that is to make this community a better place to live in, not for ourselves, but for the residents of Barangay Motibot.

Barangay Motibot, we can’t wait to do great things for you!
